Shelley's Ghost

This copy of the duc de Montpensier’s portrait was commissioned by Sir Percy and Lady Shelley from Reginald Easton, a miniaturist highly regarded for his portraits of children. It was clearly intended as a partner for Easton’s miniature of Mary Shelley; the two portraits are in matching Asprey's frames and leather boxes. Easton has colourized and enlivened the original, but in doing so has lost something of its delicacy.
